On October 14, the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, RUC, hosted the Symposium on Combining Marxism with Chinese Excellent Traditional Culture at Room 1808 of the Culture Mansion. It was the second session of the “Scientific Theory · Philosophy · Truth: Forum on New Thoughts for a New Era” Series Academic Activities launched by the Academy.

Present at the meeting were Li Deshun, a tenured professor from the China University of Political Science and Law, Professor Song Zhiming from the School of Philosophy, RUC, Professor Zhang Shuguang from the School of Philosophy, Beijing Normal University, Professor Yang Xuegong from the Department of Philosophy, Peking University, Professor Sun Xiguo, Executive Deputy Dean of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Peking University, Li Chunhua, Research Fellow of the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Qin Xuan, Dean of the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, RUC, Professor Liu Jianjun, Professor Song Youwen, Associate Professor Zhou Jiabin and Lecturer Lan Yang from the School of Marxism Studies, RUC, and other distinguished guests. The meeting was chaired by Professor Song Youwen.

Experts mainly discussed issues as follows: First, systematically analyzed the historical background for the proposal of the proposition of “combining Marxism with Chinese excellent traditional culture” at present, and clarified its great practical significance. Second, discussed the the connotation, extension of Marxism and Chinese excellent traditional culture, and further discussed issues such as how to view Marxism correctly, how to view Chinese excellent traditional culture correctly, etc. Third, deeply exchanged the premise, key factors, important results and other related contents for the combination between Marxism and Chinese excellent traditional culture.

Dean Qin Xuan delivered a summary speech, saying that experts have expressed their own opinions on the combination of Marxism with Chinese excellent traditional culture, which are both thoughtful and enlightening. He said that today's discussion is just a start, and hopes the discussion about this issue can proceed in the future, so as to contribute more to the theoretical research of Marxism in China. In the meantime, the Academy will continue to play its role as a policy-making advisor in making more efforts to gather excellent experts and scholars to participate in discussions, and continuously improving its capabilities of scientific research and offering advice and suggestions.
