On October 14, Li Shunqian, associate professor of the School of Marxism of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Chen Yanbin, professor of the School of Marxism Studies of Jiangsu Normal University, wrote in Guangming Daily that on the new journey, we should promote the gains of reform and development to benefit all the people in a fair way, and make more notable and substantial progress in promoting common prosperity. Common prosperity refers to affluence shared by everyone, and more attention should be paid to improving the balance, coordination and inclusiveness of development. We should adhere to the people-centered philosophy of development, strive to achieve coordinated and balanced development between regions, integrated urban-rural development and rural revitalization, comprehensively implement the new development philosophy, pay more attention to coordinated and shared development, and gradually solve the problems of unbalanced and inadequate development and relative poverty so as to ultimately achieve common prosperity for everyone. Common prosperity is gradual prosperity, and we should always take development as the top priority. We should take economic development as the central task, constantly unleash and develop productive forces, and promote common prosperity by stages in the pursuit of high-quality development, and "share the cake fairly" on the basis of constantly "making the cake bigger." Common prosperity is all-around prosperity, and we should take various measures for effective implementation. First, we should focus our work on housing, medical care, elderly care, employment and support for the young, which bear on people's livelihood and social fairness and justice. Second, we should properly handle the relationship between the government and market, and see that government plays its function of adjusting redistribution and the gains of reform and development benefit all the people more in a fair way. Last, we must devote great energy to addressing development’s imbalances, gradually narrow the gap between urban and rural area, regions, and in people's incomes so as to better fulfill the essential requirement of socialism to achieve common prosperity for everyone.
