On October 13, Gao Xiang, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Academic Advisor to the Research Center of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era under the CASS, published an article in People's Daily, holding that to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era requires systemic study of the Chinese history and culture, deep understanding of historical laws of human development, and drawing wisdom from history to forge ahead. The Communist Party of China (CPC) has inherited the fine tradition of the Chinese nation of valuing and studying history and drawing lessons from history, has always attached great importance to the study and learning of history, and is good at grasping the law of historical development from the vicissitudes in the past. In the new era, we should do a good job in learning and studying history for the purpose of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, better sum up historical experience, reveal historical laws, and grasp historical trends. To this end, we must adhere to the correct orientations in learning and studying history, that is, the guiding principles of Marxism, the principle of seeking truth from facts, a people-centered approach, and a forward-looking and holistic methodology. We should advance the high-quality development of learning and studying history in the new era. Specifically, we should adhere to the integrated development of basic theoretical research and applied countermeasure research, spark inspiration through social practice, seek academic growth drivers while serving the reality, and strive to provide historical wisdom for economic and social development. We should strengthen ideological guidance and theoretical analysis, make historical conclusions on the basis of rich and accurate historical records and in-depth and meticulous research and analysis, let history talk and speak with historical facts, and debunk the fallacy of historical nihilism. We should also integrate historical research resources and strength, adhere to the deep integration of multiple disciplines to join forces for key breakthroughs, seek to break down the disciplinary barriers between natural sciences and philosophy and social sciences, so that researchers can examine the evolution of human civilization from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
