The Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, RUC (hereinafter referred to as the “Academy”), hosted the Symposium on Whole-process Democracy at Room 1808 of the Culture Mansion on September 24. It was the first session of the “Scientific Theory · Philosophy · Truth: Forum on New Thoughts for a New Era” Series Academic Activities launched by the Academy. Present at the meeting were Professor He Zengke from the School of Government, Peking University, Research Fellow Chen Xuelian from the No. 3 Research Division of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, Associate Professor Wang Jiangyan from the Central Institute of Socialism, Associate Professors Bai Yunzhen and Liu Qingle from the School of Government, Central University of Finance and Economics, Associate Professor Sun Long from the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China, Associate Professor Huang Xiaofang from the School of Marxism Studies, Renmin University of China, Dr. Shao Zijie from the School of Government and Public Affairs, Communication University of China, and Dr. Bai Chen from the School of Labor and Human Resources, Renmin University of China. The meeting was chaired by Professor Chen Jiagang from the School of Marxism Studies, Renmin University of China. Professor Qin Xuan, President of the Academy, attended the meeting and delivered a summary speech.

Experts mainly discussed issues as follows: First, systematically reviewed the basic process of proposing the whole-process democracy concept, analyzed the characteristics of this concept, and summarized the overall situation of the whole-process democracy research in the current academic circles. Second, conducted discussions and exchanges on the theories, practices, systems and other issues of whole-process democracy. Third, discussed issues on the innovation of whole-process democracy, differences between whole-process democracy and Western democracy, how whole-process democracy can transcend Western democracy, combination of whole-process democracy with a new political party system, etc. Besides, the participating experts also discussed and exchanged views on how to deepen the theoretical research of whole-process of democracy in the next step, how to promote whole-process democracy in practice, and other issues.

Dean Qin Xuan welcomed and thanked the experts participating in the meeting, introduced the background and purpose of hosting the “Scientific Theory · Philosophy · Truth: Forum on New Thoughts for a New Era” Series Academic Activities. He stated that the Academy will continue to leverage its platform advantages to earnestly study, research and publicize the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, redouble its efforts to gather a large number of outstanding experts and scholars, and strive to launch superior results with more characteristics of the times to better serve the development of the age.
