On the afternoon of July 7, RUC held a press conference on the study of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks at the conference for celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the release of a series of achievements in the centenary of the founding of the CPC.

The meeting was organized by the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (“Academy” for short) and the National Academy of Development and Strategy, RUC. Present at the meeting were Liu Wei, President of RUC and Director-General of the Academy, Ouyang Song, former Director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee and an academic advisor to the Academy, Jiang Hui, a member of the Party Group, Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies and Director of the Academy of Marxism, CASS, Cao Xiaoli, Deputy Director of the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences, Yang Ruisen, former Director of the Department of Social Sciences, Ministry of Education, etc. The meeting was jointly chaired by Liu Yuanchun, Vice President of RUC & the Academy, and Qi Pengfei, Director of the Academy.

When delivering a speech, Liu Wei stressed that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s keynote address at the conference for celebrating the centenary of the founding of the CPC, which was based on crucial time nodes such as the significant moment for the centenary of the founding of the CPC and the historical junction of "Two Centenary Goals", has systematically reviewed the great path explored, the great cause created and great achievements made by the CPC in leading the people of all ethnic groups across the country over the past century since its founding; announced the realization of the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects with heroic self-confidence and great aspiration, solemnly declared the firm resolve to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and advance toward the second centenary goal of comprehensively building China into a great modern socialist country, deeply expounded the fundamental requirements for learning from history and creating the future, and called for all Party members to strive for greater glory for the Party and the people. China’s success hinges on the CPC. The leadership of the CPC is the most essential feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics as well as the greatest advantage of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Surrounding the study and interpretation of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, rule of the CPC and China, and promotion of Marxism in China, RUC has carried out a series of basic and forward-looking work. In the future, it will continue to give full play to its disciplinary advantages to guide teachers to conduct research in China, and actively provide learning theories and advice and suggestions for the Party and the people.

Cao Xiaoli pointed out that as the year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the event for celebrating the centenary of the founding of the CPC, which is farsighted, profound, connotative and logically rigorous, and has sparked heated discussions at home and abroad. It has pointed out the direction and provided a key principle for the CPC to learn from history and create the future, and realize the second centenary goal and the Chinese dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi at its core has attached great importance to the work for philosophy and social sciences in China. The National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences will adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, further strengthen the management and service of philosophy and social sciences, and effectively promote and accelerate the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, thus serving the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences in China in the new era.

Collection of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era

In October 2017, the 19th National Congress of the CPC put forward the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. By giving full play to the role of the Academy and the National Academy of Development and Strategy, RUC has organized experts to write a 30-book Collection of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era immediately after the opening of the 19th National Congress of the CPC. In order to promote the overseas publicity of the study and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, RUC has carried out the translation of the collection in an orderly manner with the great support of the university's scientific research office and China Renmin University Press. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the English editions of books, such as Banner of the New Era: The Historical Status of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era compiled by Professor Jin Nuo, Research of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era compiled by Professor Liu Wei, Research of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Progress compiled by Professor Zhang Yunfei, Research of Key Remarks on Education by General Secretary Xi Jinping compiled by Professor Zhou Guangli, Research of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Construction for a New Era compiled by Associate Professor Zhao Shumei, and Research of Major-country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era compiled by Professor Pu Ping, have been successively published, which are very influential. Besides, the books Banner of the New Era: The Historical Status of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and Research of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era have also been translated into Romanian and published.

Development History of Marxism (ten volumes)

The ten-volume book, Development History of Marxism (nine volumes have been published at present), was approved and supported by RUC’s scientific research fund program in 2015, which expounds the historical process of the formation, development and deepening of Marxism in new practices in the past 170 years from a holistic perspective. The book with a total of more than 6 million words was published by People's Publishing House. Five teachers, namely Zhuang Fuling, Yang Ruisen, Liang Shufa, Hao Lixin and Zhang Xin, served as editors-in-chief. Volume I: Founding of Marxism (1840-1848); Volume II: Formation and Development of the Marxist System (1848-1875); Volume III: Deepening of Marxism in Debate and Research (1875-1895); Volume IV: Development and Evolution of Marxism in the Second Half of the Second International (1895-1917); Volume V: Formation and Development of Leninism before the October Revolution (1895-1917); Volume VI: Formation and Development of Marxism and Mao Zedong Thought in Soviet Union after October Revolution (1917-1945); VII: Development of Marxism in Socialist Countries after the Second World War (1945-1976); VIII: Spread and Development of Marxism in Non-socialist Countries (since 1923); IX: Formation and Development of Marxism and Deng Xiaoping Theory in the Course of Socialist Reform (1976-1992); Volume X: Cross-century Development of the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the CPC, the masterpiece is a special gift given to our Party from researchers of the Marxist theory.

Rule of the CPC and China Collection

Based on the spirit of the Fourth and Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC and the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important speeches, the compilation of the Rule of the CPC and China Collection was led by Jin Nuo, Secretary of the RUC Party Committee and Liu Wei, President of RUC. The collection, which was supported by RUC’s scientific research fund program, consists of six volumes, namely Advantages of China and Institutional Codes of China compiled by Secretary Jin Nuo and President Liu Wei, Research of Thought on Party Building in the New Era compiled by Professor Yang Fengcheng, The Rule of China on a New Journey compiled by Professor Yang Kaifeng, Logic of People’s Livelihood in the Rule of China compiled by Professor Zheng Gongcheng, and China’s Institutional Logic compiled by Professor Qin Xuan. Through the discussion of different volumes, the collection has fully presented scholars’ theoretical thinking on the basic principles and logic of modern state governance, the “system of China” and “rule of China” under the reference of modern state governance, the Chinese logic of national institutional and governance modernization, the internal logic relationship between the Communist Party of China and the "rule of China" and "system of China", and fully demonstrated that the "rule of China" is shining brightly in the 21st century under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. Currently, the collection is proceeding in an orderly manner.

Research on China's Translation and Communication in the Centenary of the Founding of the CPC

The book was written by Professor Wang Jianhua, Associate Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, RUC. It consists of eight chapters in Part One, Part Two and Part Three, and covers five historical development stages, namely the period before the founding of the CPC, the period from the founding of the CPC to the founding of New China, the period from the founding of New China to the period before reform and opening up, the period of reform and opening up, and the new era. It describes how translation and communication has contributed to the great leap of the Chinese people from standing up to getting rich and becoming strong. The book has systematically reorganized the social and cultural value of translation and communication in the past century since the founding of the CPC; extracted the great contribution of translation and communication in the promotion of Marxism in China and the internationalization of Chinese Marxism; summarized the important role of translation and communication in contributed to the great leap of the Chinese people from standing up to getting rich and becoming strong; analyzed the contribution of translation and communication to the localization of Marxism in China and its internationalization.

Other Results

Other results include Reorganization and Research of Legal Documents in Revolutionary Base Areas, a 16-volume book with 13 million words supported by China’s National Social Science Fund program and RUC’s scientific research fund program, and compiled by Professor Zhang Xipo from the Law School, RUC, which was officially published; Construction History of the Communist Party of China, a 8-volume book compiled by Professor Ouyang Song, Ideological History of the Communist Party of China, a 6-volume book compiled by Professor Yang Fengcheng, and other publications, are expected to be published by year-end.

It is learned that RUC is building an advantageous team based on its platforms such as the Academy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Academy of CPC History and Construction, and the National Academy of Development and Strategy. The team will do solid research on the construction history of the CPC, the ideological history of the CPC, the ideological history of human rights of the CPC, the start of a new journey for comprehensively building a modern socialist country, etc., and launch many series works in the future.
