On May 15, professor Wang Xiangming, associate dean of the Accademy of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Renmin University of China, was invited to participate in the “Big Class of Ideological and Political Theory” activity jointly organized by the Department of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education and People’s Daily Online. He gave national college students the ideological and political theory course on the history of reform and opening-up, entitle “Ambitious and Unafraid, China’s Answers to World History: The Great Significance and Historical Enlightenment of Reform and Opening Up.”

Professor Wang Xiangming made a profound and systematic interpretation from three aspects. First, the great achievements of China’s reform and opening-up have proved that we must unswervingly follow our own path. Second, the great achievements of China’s reform and opening-up have injected vigor into the practice of scientific socialism. Third, China’s reform and opening-up has contributed wisdom to solve many “world-class” problems and expanded the path for developing countries to achieve modernization. He pointed out that China’s reform and opening-up has succeeded in the arduous task of eliminating absolute poverty, made the Chinese economy the engine and stabilizer of the world economy, and solved the worldwide problem of combining socialism with the market economy.

Professor Wang Xiangming said that in the past four decades since the reform and opening-up, China has created opportunities for development in world history and successfully embarked on a unique path of socialist modernization, fully demonstrating the vitality of scientific socialism. The greatest enlightenment from the glorious course of the reform and opening-up is that we must adhere to the leadership of the CPC and the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. General Secretary Xi Jinping concluded that, at the event celebrating the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up, we must see that the Party exercises leadership over all work and keeps enhancing and improving its way of leadership. The practice of reform and opening-up over the past 40 years has shown that the leadership of the Party is the defining feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics and constitutes the greatest strength of this system; and the Party exercises overall leadership over all endeavors across the country.
